Check-in at “The Casa do Rio” of Quinta de Ventozelo. The accommodation is the result of an intervention carried out some years ago, on a traditional Douro building near the river and the dock. You will have at your disposal the privacy of a cozy Villa with 2 double rooms arranged around a living room with a garden and terrace with unobstructed views to the river. Your tour begins in a charming museum that recounts the estate's history, the legacy of the Symington family, and the story behind their renowned wines. Next, you'll embark on a tour of the vineyards, followed by a visit to the old cellar, a magnificent structure dating back to 1896. This vast cellar, with its intricately designed roof, has preserved the estate's Port wines for over a century before they are transported down the river to Vila Nova de Gaia for further maturation. The highlight here is the wood-burning stove and oven, bringing back the traditional flavors of the old Douro kitchens with a modern twist.
As an additional option, we highly recommend a visit to the Six Senses activity center, where you can indulge in the art of tile painting. Helene, an accomplished artist who honed her skills in the picturesque town of Óbidos, invites you to discover the traditional Portuguese method of tile painting in a hands-on workshop. The activity consists of a guided tour of the winery, wine cellar and robotic presses, complemented by multimedia explaining the entire wine production cycle.
Your experience at Quinta do Seixo begins with a guided tour to the vineyard, with an explanation of the terroir, biodiversity and winemaking practices. It includes a stop at the Old Vineyard, with more than a century.
