Portugal is a beautiful country with a lot to unveil and learn but besides this, it also offers outstanding food and delicious wine. Not not only offers a fantastic number of places that excel in these areas, which in the recent awarding is a record of 35 Michelin Stars to 28 restaurants around the country shows that its quality is on the up too.
But here are some of the latest Portuguese restaurants in the fine dining scene that you should try this year and in which one was awarded a Michelin star for this year.
JNcQuoi Avenida
JNcQUOI Avenida is a fantastic upscale restaurant, a bar, a gourmet deli, a wine cellar, and a luxury men’s fashion store with a made-to-measure service and a portfolio of the most prestigious names in fashion and accessories.
Located at the 182 Avenida da Liberdade, in Lisbon, and right in the entrance you will notice, there is the first Ladurée counter in Portugal with colorful macarons and other Parisian pastries - raspberry mille-feuille included. The classic green and gold boxes easily catch the eye, but it's the new three-floor space that will definitely catch your eye.
The decoration alone, full of marble and mirrored glass, reflects the luxury that is breathed and has already been approved by Valentino during one of his visits to the capital of the country. From breakfast to dinner, lunch, and 5 o'clock tea, JNcQUOI offers a diversified offer of both food and fashion. Still on the middle floor, a bar- counter with 42 seats invites you to lighter meals such as grouper ceviche or a wonderful buffalo burrata that can be accompanied with a long list of wines or cocktails.
Next to Delibar, it is an air-conditioned room ready to receive wine tastings with more rare references than the fingers on one hand. Around the space, there is a gourmet grocery store and a wine cellar surrounding the space with a selection of national and international products such as cheeses, charcuterie, and many truffles to go.
On the way to the bathroom/dance floor, you will find a beautiful display case from the Assouline publishing house full of coffee table books on art, fashion, travel, architecture, and design. Featured, the work Valentino: Mirabilia Romae would make the Italian designer proud. And where is Ladurée's tea room? It will be adjacent to the women's Fashion Clinic store in Tivoli Forum.
Incomum Restaurant
The simple but yet refined decoration marked by soft tones conquers those who sit at the table of Incomum by Luís Santos restaurant, in Sintra. In truth, the cozy atmosphere dictates it in the three rooms, especially in the interior, which is definitely more welcoming and intimate. The windows of this one face, in turn, another, brighter one, from which one can see the access stairway to the back of the house. The dishes on the menu are based on traditional Portuguese cuisine, but also on French.
Moreover and although is next door there is the Incomum Wine Gallery, with more than 270 wines to choose from to buy or have a wonderful taste.
Casa dos Ecos Restaurant
The pop-up at Casa dos Ecos features the best of Douro's seasonal produce and brings together two leading names in Portuguese gastronomy and wine production - the Symington family, renowned producers of DOC wines and port wines, and Michelin-starred chef Pedro Lemos.
Chef Pedro Lemos draws on local produce for the menu, which is constantly being updated over the four-month period through summer and fall and spanning the harvest season. The pop-up offers regional Douro dishes using traditional techniques, including cooking on a wood-burning stove. The menu pairs with Douro wines and Port wines from the Symington family's exceptional portfolio.
Casa dos Ecos is situated on a high point surrounded by vineyards and with magnificent views of the Douro River, on one of the family's most iconic properties, Quinta do Bomfim - famous for producing the Dow's Ports. Five generations of Symingtons have worked this vineyard. This pop-up aims to create a unique space for people to enjoy the authentic Douro culture in a relaxed setting.
Antiqvvm Restaurant
There are places in the world that, just by their location, exert a particular power of attraction; this is the case of Antiqvvm, located in a leafy and central park, next to the city's Romantic Museum, with a careful garden from which you will have... one of the most idyllic views over the Douro river!
Awarded with a Michelin star and with elegant rooms, which merge classic and contemporary details with great taste, Chef Vítor Matos bets on a seasonal cuisine that highlights the product, completing the dishes with different ingredients that have the sole purpose of valuing or enhancing this main product.
The restaurant also has a fantastic terrace that is prepared to receive up to 12 people, for an exciting proposal of outdoor tasting.
