Quinta de Ventozelo
Quinta de Ventozelo is one of the largest and most ancient properties of the Douro region. Its origins go back to the early XIX century, before being referenced in the map of Baron Forrester, in 1848. The first harvests have been made by the Cistercian monks, who settled in the region during the Middle Ages, playing an important role in the promotion of local agriculture. The twenty-nine rooms are spread over seven pre-existing buildings, with very distinct typologies, giving the guests different types of accommodations to choose from. The villas, like the Casa de Proprietário is the result of an intervention made in the late twentieth century, built on a traditional XVIII century Douro building, transforming it into a colonial-style hunting lodge. It has 6 superior double bedrooms arranged around a central courtyard cloister, library, dining and living rooms, terrace and overflowing pool with a river view, besides this fantastic villa, there is also, Casa do Rio. This is the most recent building at the estate. It is near the river and harbor, providing two standard double rooms, a living room, a terrace, and a large patio. Moreover, there are 400 hectares in the estate (200 of which are vineyards, 150 are Mediterranean woodlands and 20 are olive groves), there are seven signposted footpaths that allow you to enjoy this unique space, afterward, you also have wine tastings, cooking workshops, birdwatching, agriculture activities, and much more. The restaurant Cantina do Ventozelo, with advice from chef Miguel Castro e Silva, is another attraction.
