Sustainable Luxury In Midst Alentejo
04.08.2021
Sustainability, eco-friendly, sustainable luxury are some of the main trends in tourism at the moment. Herdade da Malhadinha Nova, located in the heart of Alentejo, in the city of Beja, celebrates two decades of work in tourism and is increasingly aware of sustainable options. With six Accommodations, the hotel is the synonym of diversity, blending selected pieces of exclusive and curated interior design (a chandelier designed for Moooi by the famous product designer Marcel Wanders) with a century-old grand piano. And has Michelin star Joachim Koerper as the consultant chef, what more can we ask for?
The Alentejo is synonymous with large, green ridges that overlook the traditionally brown land. The heat, the landscape, and its characteristics are what captures us. The estate is located in one of the biggest and best wine regions in the country and offers an experience to match.
With space as far as the eye can see, the estate spreads over 450 hectares in Beja, produces 350,000 bottles of wine a year, and has vineyards, olive groves, cows, horses, organic production, cellar, restaurant! The project has grown and is now part of the Relais & Châteaux network, one of the most prestigious in the world, but it remains familiar and in the hands of Soares, people from the Algarve who discovered “the passion of a lifetime” in the Alentejo.
"PRIVACY, EXCLUSIVITY, AND LUXURY ARE THE KEYWORDS THAT CONNECT THE DIFFERENT SPACES.", Herdade da Malhadinha Nova, in their website.
HOUSING UNITS WITH A UNIQUE PERSONALITY
All different, the new houses were born from existing ruins and were inspired by different aspects of the property, with the decor incorporating contemporary brands and national and international designers – Vitra, Vista Alegre, Flos, Ferm Living, Philippe Starck, Vincent Sheppard, Eames, and so on – in a rural and Alentejo environment.
MONTE DA PECEGUINA - COUNTRYHOUSE
Monte da Peceguinha is a typical Alentejo house estate surrounded by 7 hectares of vines. This villa-based accommodation has 3 suites and 7 rooms with a touch of personality. The villas have Duravitt bathroom fixtures and Philippe Starck lighting, Bvlgari toiletries, iPads, Bose sound systems, and underfloor heating. An incredibly modern and contemporary experience.
CASA DAS PEDRAS - TIMELESS SUITES
Individual terraces, private pools, private with no common areas, Casa das Pedras are the perfect solution for secluded luxury and is the most exclusive Malhadinha Nova offer.
With a more contemporary offer than the rest of the estate's offerings, the timeless suites focus on minimalist construction and decorations with an individual character. The simple lines, the woody touches that kiss with the golden of the views, the wine aromas are simple touches that make all the difference. A Flos Lamp, Carl Hansen & Søn chairs, Alvar Aalto coat rack for Artek, are some of the iconic pieces that add the perfect touch to the minimalist decor of this house.
CASA DO ANCORADOURO - HOME OF TERRACOTA
Born from the marriage of the traditional and the modern, a Casa do Ancodouro presents a traditional Alentejo architecture that is complete with a Bulthaup kitchen, a Steinway & Sons grand piano from 1900, a Living Divani sofa, and a lamp designed by Marcel Wanders.
These distinct points make this house unforgettable. Located in one of the highest points of the estate, its inspiration comes from the color of the land that surrounds it. The clay, the terracotta color comes from the inspiration of the terroir, this house was designed by the artisan Beringel and is a replica of the Malhadinha Original.
CASA DA RIBEIRA - SLOW LIVING VILLA
Private, luxurious, and with spacious areas, Casa da Ribeira is a villa also decorated with the best of national and international design: the Moooi Perch Lamp by designer Umut Yamac, Portuguese sideboards by Olaio, and white chairs designed by the German creator and industrialist Michael Thonet in 1830, two iconic historical brands that have been given a new lease of life.
Representing a new concept in villa accommodation, the building runs parallel to a shared swimming pool with a deck.
HOUSE OF ARTS AND CRAFTS - VILLA INSPIRED BY ART
As its name implies, this villa is inspired by the arts and crafts of the region's masters: clay among other regional and natural materials. In this house, the arts are the focus and the cultural activities that provide from workshops to exhibitions, among others, are constant.
Art is the basis of all the inspiration for the house, which is located beside a tributary of the Guadiana, the Ribeira de Terges. Green tones are a presence in the decor of this original and creative house. Consisting of 2 very original suites measuring about 25 m2 each, living room, dining room, and kitchen. On the high walls, you can see works from traveling exhibitions. From the swimming pool, you can observe the stillness of the stream waters.
